The BP Big Screens are being set up across London again this summer, and they will be showing free live relays from the Royal Opera House on three separate dates.

This Thursday, 13 June, it’s the turn of the Royal Ballet Company with their production of Mayerling (which our intrepid contributor Fran Pickering reviewed a little while ago) – the screening will start at 7:30pm prompt at four locations in the capital; Trafalgar Square (I’ve never really seen the appeal myself given that you’re probably going to have to sit on Portland stone and will be surrounded by massive crowds), Victoria Park over in Tower Hamlets, General Gordon Square in Woolwich and Walthamstow Town Square.

On Thursday 11 July the Royal Opera’s La Rondine gets the live streaming treatment, with the final act being Puccini’s ever popular opera Tosca which will be screened on 18 July.

All of these events are, of course, free of charge and will give lots of Londoners the opportunity to see productions that they couldn’t afford to see otherwise (the very limited number of £6 to £15 tickets at the Royal Opera House sell out almost before they go on sale!).
