Get Ahead Of The Games Takes To The Road

March 12, 2012

Odds & Ends

Following on from the release of the public transport maps, the Get Ahead Of The Games website now has an interactive heatmap predicting the impact of the London 2012 Games on the road system around the Olympic Zones as well as a pdf of  the controversial Olympic & Paralympic Route Networks, which you can find here.

Although they’ve buried it very deep in the site (shame on you TfL), I do think that if you’re a driver you should take special note of the Olympic Route Network map. Where the roads it covers are dual carriageway or more, one lane will be a dedicated ‘Games Lane’ operating from 6am to midnight throughout the Games, and there are severe penalties for anyone using them who isn’t authorised to do so. Needless to say if you take those routes they will be particularly congested with the resulting reduction in space for regular traffic.
