Rob Shoesmith's iPhone 5 Experiment On Regent Street

I got a tweet today from Rob Shoesmith, asking for some advice on where he could find some keen photographers. My curiosity piqued, I did a little investigating and discovered that Rob (who is a refuse collector from Coventry) will be spending some time camping outside the Apple store on Regents St in anticipation of the launch of the iPhone as soon as a date is announced, while carrying out an intriguing experiment.

Rob has set himself a goal of not spending any money whatsoever while he's sleeping under the stars, and instead is relying on donations from companies and well-wishers to keep him fed and entertained until the launch. It looks like he's been in receipt of a whole box of crisps in the last day or so, and he's currently looking for people to play tennis with him, as the people at Swingball have just sent him a set. No doubt I'll be going down to Regent St when he arrives to see what the fuss is all about, but in the meantime perhaps I might ask the followers I have who are public relations people to consider lining up some donations. Given how much the 'Rob Shoesmith' meme seems to be spreading across the internet at the moment, it might be worth your while!

He certainly looks harmless enough, although you can never tell with these Apple fans - they're not calling the new version of their operating system 'Lion' for nothing you know... You can keep up with his exploits by following his prolific Twitter feed. Good luck Rob!

Just to let everyone know I will be at Cpvent Garden when camping out. It will be a lot safer to pitch my tent.

Feel free to say hi on twitter @shoesmith81

Thanks

That's a good idea Rob - I doubt the police will be happy for you to pitch your tent in the middle of Regent St. Let me know when you're down and I shall pop over for a little interview! And eat your crisps...
