Barclays Hosting Weekly Bike Clinics In London

Barclays, the sponsors of the Barclays Cycle Hire scheme and London’s ‘Cycle Superhighways’ is working with the Bikeworks social enterprise over the next few weeks to offer free health check-ups for bikes. This initiative is taking place in response to some startling facts about bike riders in London. Did you know, for example, that three in five (57 per cent) people are riding bikes that aren’t fit to be on the road, and that close to one in five (18 per cent) people cycle in the dark with no lights?

Christine Bleakley gets some bike advice…

Jim Blakemore, co-director of social enterprise Bikeworks, whose staff will be carrying out the checks and providing advice, said:

More than two in five (41 per cent) London cyclists have never had their bike checked by a professional bike shop technician. The 45 clinics Barclays is hosting around the capital provide everyone with the opportunity for a free bike check and our Cycle Into Work graduates are among the best mechanics in the country.

The bike clinics take place between 5pm and 7:30pm every Wednesday night until early July – ideal if you’re heading back home from work on your bike. The locations are as follows:

  • Junction of Cable St and Cannon St in Tower Hamlets
  • Southern end of Chelsea Bridge in Kensington & Chelsea
  • Junction of Kennington Park Road and Brixton Road in Lambeth
  • Eel Brook Common in Hammersmith & Fulham

Weekend clinics will also be held at the Barclays Spaces for Sports in Islington, Croydon, Hammersmith and Haringey. You’ll find full details over on the Barclays Bikes Facebook page.
