Facebook fans of the worldwide network of Hard Rock Cafes have been helping to narrow down an initial long list of 12,000 bands as part of Hard Rock Rising – a competition that will see the winning group or soloist get a spot on the bill at this summer’s Hard Rock Calling festival in London (which Kasabian will be headlining) as well as the opportunity to go on a mini-tour of Hard Rock Cafes around the world. Hard Rock Records will also be helping them to produce an album and video, and providing $10,000 of new equipment!
Tomorrow night, 27 March, the artists who have made it through the Hard Rock Rising preliminary rounds in London – Alexa De Strange, The Carnabys and Tequilla Mockingbird – will be be taking part in a gig at the Hard Rock Cafe on Old Park Lane. Judged by an expert panel which includes Dave Bradley from Live Nation, James Walsh of Starsailor and Phil Manzanera, Roxy Music’s legendary lead guitarist, the winner of this round will go forward to represent the city against the winners from the ninety-five other Hard Rock Cafe venues.
Given the war of attrition that they’ve already had to get through, there are bound to be some great performances tomorrow (I think The Carnaby’s have it in the bag but that’s just me!) . Entry on the door to tomorrow night’s happening is just £3, with all ticket sales going to London’s Richard House Hospice – the first hospice for children established in the city.
Check out the Hard Rock Rising competition page on Facebook to see the outcome from the London heat, and to see what happens next – I’ll be there tomorrow night with the camera capturing some of the performances!
