Café De Mort – Dicing With Death For Remember A Charity On 26 and 27 February

cafe de mort remember a charity londonOpen on two nights only later this month, food aficionado Gregg Wallace will open the doors on Café de Mort in aid of Remember A Charity, the consortium of 150 charities that is encouraging people to leave bequests to charities in their Wills.

Greg Wallace had this to say about this ground-breaking happening, “I’ve eaten all sorts of food in my time, but this is the first time I’ve actually had to put my life on the line! The menu is unlike anything I’ve ever tried. All the dishes are considered delicacies in one part of the world or another, but one slip in the kitchen could have deadly consequences. But I’m confident that our chefs won’t have any lethal lapses and I can’t wait to get stuck in.”

The event is taking place on 26 and 27 February in an as-yet undisclosed ‘crypt’ in central London and should prove to be one of the most unique dining experiences of 2013. If you’re interested in participating, the website is here, although you’ll have to be quick because its already proving popular with culinary thrill-seekers.

Remember A Charity is putting on the event to remind people of the unpredictable nature of life, and how important it is not to forget the needs of our friends and family, and the important charitable work that supports communities at home and abroad. Their website provides advice and guidance on incorporating a gift to charity in your will – it might surprise to learn that this is a major source of funding for many organisations but only 7% of people think about donating in this way.

One of the charities involved in the Remember A Charity consortium is Dogs Trust, who have been very kind in securing a place for the Londoneer at the event (expect a rather gruesome review towards the end of the month!). The Dogs Trust (incorporated as the Canine Defence League in 1891), annually cares for around 16000 dogs from its national network of 18 Rehoming Centres, and are notable in that they never destroy healthy dogs. They also provide a subsidised neutering service and run an educational programme in schools to remind children of the important responsibilities that come with having man’s best friend as a member of their family.
