Another Halloween-themed production, ‘The Revenger’s Tragedy‘ from Independent Productions is playing at Hoxton Hall, one of Londons’ few remaining Victorian music halls, until 10 November.
Directed by Suba Das (whose resume includes recent productions including ‘Othello’ at the Rose Theatre and ‘The Winter’s Tale’ in the leafy surroundings of Camley Street Natural Park) ‘The Revenger’s Tragedy’ takes a fresh new look at Thomas Middleton’s 17th century masterpiece – a story about a young man seeking revenge from the ruling elite after the brutal murder of his fiancee, set against the background of a royal wedding.
This new play features young actors Tom Mothersdale as the lead protagonist Mercutio and Jaime Winstone (whose recent credits include ‘Kidulthood’ and Channel 5′s ‘Dead Set’), with costume and set design from Rachael Smith, lighting and projection by Tupac Martir and choreography from Lucy Cullingford.
Given the setting, the innovative design and the talent on show it should prove to be a stirring and no-doubt gruesome evening out – tickets are priced at £15 with concessions for under 27s (!) at only £8. You can pick them up online here.
