Tomorrow evening the Stepney Green Design Collection will go on show at the celebrated independent Genesis Cinema on Mile End Road, running until the end of December.
The exhibition features furniture and lighting curated by Dezeen (the architecture, design and interiors online magazine), interesting objects gathered together by Katie Antoniou of London Plinth and Run Riot (the London events listings site) and some striking artworks. The latter were put together by me – alongside a few collaborators I hunted high and low across the East End to find the most exciting pieces.
The Stepney Green Design Collection showcases the talent of local designers, artists and crafstmen, and is being supported by Vivo, the new 462-home development just a few minutes walk away from the cinema in the heart of Stepney. The majority of the pieces will be on display in the cinema, with some available for viewing at the Vivo Marketing Suite in Trafalgar Gardens, just off Whitehorse Lane opposite Stepney Green tube station. This rather striking new housing development has been designed by architects Levitt Bernstein.
There’ll be opportunities to win some of the pieces that are currently on display – keep an eye on the Vivo website for updates.
Do go along to see the pieces if you can – I’d be very interesting to know whether you think that I’ve captured the spirit of East London with my selection of artwork. The lighting pieces look particularly intriguing too, and of course you can also time your visit to coincide with a movie. The Genesis is a great spot, particularly their very sexy new Studio 5. They’ve also got a special horror-themed night to coincide with Halloween on 31 October – it looks good!
