This year all eyes were on London as we led the world’s celebrations and demonstrations for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender rights with the World Pride event. A victim of the economic downturn, there were no extravagantly decorated floats in this year’s parade, nor a big festival to close the festivities – just lots of people taking to the streets again as a visible reminder that the gay community is very much a part of wider British society.
This year I marched with my choir, the Pink Singers (members of which are featured above). We have a concert next Saturday at St John’s Smith Square in central London – it would be lovely to see some readers there! On the march we gave impromptu renditions of some of our favourite material, from musicals to pop via gospel. Here are some images that hopefully capture the wonderfully colourful atmosphere that transformed the streets of central London earlier today. More photographs of the World Pride event can be found here.
