Robert The Steam Engine @ Stratford Station

You’ll miss him if you’re not looking, but with the completion of remedial works around Stratford ready for London 2012 you can now go and have a look at ‘Robert’ as he has just appeared from behind his hoardings just to the right outside Stratford station.

Robert dates from 1933 – he is a 38 tonne ‘saddle locomotive’ and spent his working life hauling iron ore from a mine in Northamptonshire. The Olympic Delivery Authority were responsible for getting him spruced up and put on show outside the station – now you know where some of that taxpayers’ money went…
