London’s Open Garden Squares Weekend

This Saturday and Sunday London will once again be celebrating its most intimate public spaces with the Open Garden Squares Weekend. As well as helping Londoners to familiarise themselves with the nearby public spaces that they probably pass by without even noticing, some of the private squares in central London that are normally only open to local residents will welcome all-comers.

This year 208 squares and gardens across London will be open over the two days including, for the first time, the garden of 10 Downing St! Other places that you can visit include Kensington Gardens Square, the Phoenix Garden in Covent Garden, the Regent’s Park Allotment Garden and the British Medical Association’s Council Garden amongst many, many others.

I had a really good time wandering around last year – check out my post from last May for a taste of what to expect this coming weekend. You’ll want to check on the Open Garden Squares Weekend website whether there are particular booking arrangements for the places you wish to visit – while many operate an open-door policy you will need to contact some in advance.
