A Look At The Emirates Air Line Cable Car

Yesterday found me on the Greenwich Peninsula, home to the O2, the Ravensbourne College of Design and Communications (a stunning new building in my opinion) and, latterly, the David Beckham Football Academy (now the London Soccerdome). It’s recently been joined by another piece of architecture – the Emirates Air Line cable car, which from June will join the Peninsula with the Royal Docks on the north side of the Thames.

The towers which will support the cable cars are very impressive, but at an estimated overall cost of £60m they ought to be! I’m not entirely sure what its purpose is though – I wasn’t aware that there was a particularly burning need for travel between these two points… Anyway it’s nearly finished now, with only the buildings at either end to be completed, and as at the time of writing I understand that you’ll be able to use your regular Oystercard to board. If that changes I’ll update this post accordingly.

I also took some other photographs of the area south of the O2 on my trip, which you can see here.
