Vauxhall Art Car Boot Fair This Weekend @ Old Truman Brewery

On Sunday 19 June from 12 until 6pm, the Vauxhall Art Car Boot Fair will be taking over the Old Truman Brewery on Brick Lane.

This will be the event’s seventh outing, and this year TURPS Banana – an innovative and highly collectable painting magazine – is collaborating with artists Damien Hirst, Marcus Harvey, Ryan Mosley and the Chapman Brothers to present 75 limited edition prints each at the Fair. The pieces they’re offering aren’t cheap at £200 to £300, but at least you’ll be able to tell your friends that you have a genuine Damien Hirst on the wall at home!
Vauxhall get in on the action directly with Julia Royse, the curator of POSTED, who will be working with artist duo ‘The Girls’ to effect a transformation of a Vauxhall postal van, which will be selling stationery designed by several artists including Tracey Emin. Turn up at the Vauxhall Art Car Boot Fair early enough and you might also be able to snap up a limited edition print from Sir Peter Blake, acquire a piece by the 2010 Turner Prize winner Angela De La Cruz, or if you’re a bit of a car fan yourself pick up one of Pam Hogg’s limited edition tax disc holders.

Entertainment will be provided on the day by Cinemoi Can Can Girls, and artist Marty Thornton will be presenting her Big Fat Gypsy Fortune Teller, who will be in the back of a van (decked out in a light-up wedding dress of course!). The Bethnal Green Working Men’s Club will also be on hand to spin some tunes, and there’ll also be ‘A Band On A Car’ providing some aural entertainment. Food comes in the form of St John’s Bread and Wine’s famous ox-heart buns and the Southampton Arms (although you’re never spoilt for food along this stretch of Brick Lane if that doesn’t take your fancy – I can never resist eating at least something with curry whenever I’m there!)

It’s only £3 to enter the Vauxhall Art Car Boot Fair on Sunday which sounds like a bit of a bargain – I wish I could go myself but I’ll be elsewhere in the country which you will discover if you keep your eye on the blog over the weekend…
